The Rhinoceros Hornbill, its scientic name known as Buceros rhinoceros, is the national bird of Malaysia and the state bird of Sarawak. It is a majestic and stately bird, characterized by its pitch-black plumage and white tail with a single dark bar. This Hornbill is one of the largest birds in Asian rainforests, reaching up to 1.3 meters in length. The eyes of the male are red with black rims, and white with red rims in the female. In captivity it can live for up to 35 years. It is found in lowland and montane, tropical and subtropical climates and in mountain rain forests up to 1,400 metres in Borneo, Sumatra, Java, the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, and southern Thailand. In Malaysia, the Rhinoceros Hornbill inhabits mature lowland and foothill forests, typically found in pairs or small groups.
